The Bettelhovebeek reservoir

The Bettelhovebeek brook has its source in Grotenberge and flows (together with the Molenbeek brook) into the river Zwalm. A reservoir was created in 1982 in order to protect the valley against flooding. Nature reclaimed the land and the marshland has become a haven for species like such as the common kingfisher, heron, common reed warbler, common moorhen, ducks and dragonflies. The ‘Jan de Lichtepad’ walking trail winds its way alongside the Bettelhovebeek through the nature reserve.
